ECMN25 FAQ

Are there any conference attendance grants available for participants from the Global South?

We are currently in the process of securing funding for a limited number of grants for participants from the Global South. These grants will cover the conference fee and travel and accommodation expenses up to a maximum amount (exact amount to be confirmed).

As the process of fundraising for travel support is still ongoing, we are unable to confirm the exact number of grants available or the specific funding amount per recipient. However, we aim to support a significant portion of travel expenses for 10–20 scholars and aim to have more exact information by the time we complete the abstract evaluation process, early April. We encourage you to submit an abstract for review by March 10.

What are the requirements for submitting an abstract?

Submissions for presentation at the ECMN conference just consist of a title and a max 250-word abstract. A full paper is not required. We will prioritise presentations that showcase research findings and results. If your research is in its initial stage, and you don’t have results yet, we encourage you to think creatively and find a format or angle to present your work in progress in such a way that it is interesting for the audience. In the abstract you submit, this should already be thought through, and phrased convincingly to enhance your chance of acceptance.

Can I still attend the conference without submitting an abstract?

If you choose not to submit an abstract or if your abstracts is not accepted for presentation, you are still welcome to attend the conference. We expect to accept approximately 100-120 abstracts and the conference has space for up to a max of 180 participants in total. Hence, 60-80 persons can register and join the conference without presenting a paper. The registration link will be available on the ECMN25 conference web page once the abstract submission and selection process has ended, in April.

Can I present at the conference remotely?

We regret to inform you that remote presentations will not be possible for ECMN25. While we recognise the benefits of a fully hybrid format, we have chosen to prioritise in-person presentations for this event. However, we are exploring options to include remote access to view presentations and include participation in the Q&A through written inputs. We appreciate your understanding and hope to welcome you to Bonn in July.

What will be the presentation format?

Although the detailed conference program is still in development, we anticipate adopting the same format as in the previous two ECMN conferencesThis means we would have 90-minute slots with four presentations. Presenters would have 10 minutes each to showcase their work, and a few extra minutes for Q&A specific to their presentation. The last 30 minutes of each slot will be used for a moderated discussion between the four presenters and the audience.

I am not a researcher, and won't be able to submit an abstract of a research paper. Are there other activities or presentations I can propose?

In the abstract submission form, there is a dedicated space for people (policymakers, practitioners, artists, journalists) to suggest activities other than research presentations. We encourage you to do so and value such non-academic contributions greatly.
